On Monday evening after 10 PM, December 12th, a fire started in Los Angeles County on Malibu Canyon Road. Firefighters fought the fierce Franklin Fire, which burned over 4,000 acres in Malibu last week.. Evacuations were made mandatory until Friday the 17th, downgrading them to warnings. Due to the strong winds, the fire quickly spread embers through vegetation, according to the Los Angeles County Fire Chief.

Over 2,000 firefighters battled the fires after they rapidly grew Monday night. Flames spread across Pacific Coast Highway to Malibu Road the morning after the fire started. By Wednesday, the fire's direction shifted west after initially burning east and north. Crews strengthened containment areas with fire retardant drops and constructed new hand lines to close gaps along the eastern edge. By Friday, the wildfire grew from 5 acres to 4,037 acres, with containment reaching 30%, Cal Fire reported. Despite smoldering in rugged terrain, aerial firefighting efforts have suppressed the blaze and prevented further spreading. Thankfully, the cooler weather and the increase in humidity helped the rescuer's efforts, as well as the winds dying down. City officials verified that the fire destroyed 12 structures, including at least six residential homes and six outbuildings. Ground crews battling the fire received support from water-dropping aircraft. Officials have yet to identify the cause of the fire, which is still under investigation.
