On November 13th, a massive explosion occurred at a Louisville food dye plant. According to an official statement, firefighters rescued and evacuated numerous people from the building, including several with life-threatening injuries. The Louisville Fire Department actively searched the building and collaborated with the company to ensure all employees were accounted for. The University of Louisville Hospital treated seven injured individuals, two initially in critical condition. Unfortunately, the explosion at the Louisville food dye plant claimed two lives, and the explosion is under investigation. The incident impacted over 200 residents and commercial buildings, ordering shelter in place.

Officials spoke to employees, who reported that everything appeared normal when the blast occurred. Investigators suspect a failed cooking vessel caused the explosion. The company’s surveillance footage and a hard drive with critical data indicate it originated from a vessel on the building’s south side.

The Givaudan Sense Colour plant is owned by Swiss manufacturer Givaudan, which produces colorings for food and drinks. Nearly 21 years ago, a similar explosion occurred at the same plant under previous ownership.
